ABOUT US

Sommer Anthony and Vidal Suarez
Sommertime Farms is a family-run hunter-jumper barn that owes its success to the high standards and hard work of Sommer Anthony and her husband, Vidal Suarez. The daily work of cleaning, feeding and maintenance is completed by a small crew of long-time employees, and horse owners as well as students appreciate the barn's stability and efficiency. Sommer brings the highest level of English riding instruction to both children and adults, allowing them to achieve their goals in hunter jumper and equitation disciplines.

SOMMER ANTHONY
Sommer has lived her life among horses, first on the Oklahoma ranch where she spent her childhood, then in Tucson as a young teen. She made the transition from Western to English quickly and by 16 was traveling the state to compete in A-rated shows in the 3'6" hunter and equitation divisions, winning a multitude of championships along the way. At 25 she was tapped to be assistant trainer at Las Campañas in Santa Fe, New Mexico. From there she moved to a large private ranch, where she was responsible for training  the horses, giving riding lessons to the residents and running the barn.

Her love of Tucson brought her back in 2005 and within a few years Sommer had a roster of young clients competing locally, regionally and nationally in hunter jumper and equitation. Sommer's special gift teaching children is apparent when you first meet her, and her protégés regularly take home champion ribbons at schooling and A-rated shows across the Southwest. Her calm and generous style of instruction brings out the best in all her students, and in turn they are devoted to making her proud. Sommer is equally successful, for the same reasons, in bringing adults to their full potential and improving their skills at their own pace.

For Sommer,  responsibility, respect, and commitment are an integral part of horsemanship, and she makes these the cornerstone of her hunter jumper lessons. After that, the ribbons come naturally.
